PURISTS: Will start their critique before they get their hands on it. "But no!" they say. LED based projectors lack width! LED projectors have weak distance! LED projectors have poor high beams! At TRS we love good old HID-powered projectors more than Kanye loves Kanye...BUT....Truth be told, it's hard not to like the MLED. The performance is on par. The simplicity is sublime. The ease of installation is excellent. The instant on is awesome. The times are changing, and now is the turning point.
M: Is for Mind blown. When Morimoto first announced the MLED projector back in 2015...we were all excited! But with barely any news on it since then, some started to get the impression that it was nothing more than a myth. But then a working prototype showed up alongside Morimoto's laser concept at the 2017 DVN Conference in Detroit. Now...now it's here, and man it seems to be worth the wait. Here's why.
OUTPUT: We'll just start with the hotspot. It's on par with the Mini D2S 4.0 and a XB 45K Bulb / XB55 ballast, and about 20% brighter than it's closest LED-based competitor: the CNLight i-lens. The Kuria optic clear lens and curved cutoff shield produce a beam pattern that's plenty wide, with an ECE-sloped cutoff that's super sharp, colorful. Rather than off-the-shelf LED's like early LED projectors in the aftermarket, the MLED uses a specially developed CSP chipset from Seoul SemiConductor. To top it all off, the "M" icon that's projected onto the ground thanks to the special foreground limiter is just plain cool.
PHYSICALLY: It has a lot going for it too. The threaded mounting shaft can be removed from the projector to free up almost an inch of depth for those who don't need/want it. The integrated mag-lev fan is sunk into the heat sink, keeping space to a minimum without sacrificing the ability to stay cool. The wiring is clean, out of the way, and can be disconnected with ease. The precision and existence of mostly die-cast (rather than stamped) parts in the cutoff shield mechanism makes for a slop-free setup and conveys quality over cost savings. It could pass for an OEM part.
SIMPLICITY: Forget about separate bulbs. Forget about big ballasts, or where to mount them. Forget about complex relay harnesses, and where to run them. Here, you've got the projector and a small external LED driver to regulate power and control it's low and high beam function. If you're a clutter phobe, or simply tight on space working on something like a motorcycle: the MLED is the way to go.

APOLLO 1.0: A fully circular shroud with a large overall diameter perfect for filling out reflectors in bigger headlights. Inspired by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The Apollo's have a beautiful smooth chrome finish that is accented by textured face for clean, factory-installed finished look.
IN COMPARISON: Don't make the mistake of thinking all shrouds are created equal. Even though less expensive alternatives may be available elsewhere: Morimoto shrouds are made from the highest quality plastic and have by far the most durable metalized chrome finishes. The cheap-o's out there are flimsy enough to deform from the heat just a 35W HID bulb, and their chrome finish easily flakes off.
A OR B: At The Retrofit Source, we're also meticulous with quality control. If a shroud has a minor factory defect; we sell it at a discount as a "B stock" unit - which is perfect for budget retrofits or when painting them is part of the plans. If you won't settle for anything less than perfect and plan to leave them chrome; go for the "A Stock" Shrouds.
MOUNTING: Centric Rings are not included by default, but are highly recommended to improve ease of installation on many projectors. The Centric Rings are simple reducers that clip into the shroud to reduce the inside diameter, making them more of a "press fit" onto the lens holder of the projector. JB Quik Weld is also recommended in order to prevent the shrouds from vibrating loose over time.
Dynamic Lighting Systems Mini Beast Bi-Xenon Projectors
When dealing with a very tight space it becomes difficult to find just the right projector to not only fit in the location but also provide a superior lighting upgrade! These Mini Beasts come in 2 different options depending on if you are dealing with a shallow mount location or if you have a little extra depth to work with!
The Mini Beast 1 is the shallowest Bi-Xenon Projector available on the market! Providing a substantial light upgrade and look to the smallest of housings
The Mini Beast 2 is slightly deeper than the Mini Beast 1 but provides better light output and better fitment in some applications where the size of the location is small but still allows for a deeper mounting location!
BI-LED: PROFILE BI-LENS LED
PROFILE PERFORMANCE: The automotive aftermarket’s best name in LED Lighting; and there's no such more powerful and controlled way to light the road than with a set of high performance headlight projectors. While Bi-xenon projectors have been the industry standard for over a decade, new options from both Morimoto and Profile are here to stay. We may be the LED Concepts crew over here, but up until now we thought LED was best suited for the accessories around your headlights, not the headlights themselves. We are confident enough to use the Bi-Lens LED projectors on our own cars, and therefore we're confident enough to recommend them to you.
WELL DONE: The Profile Bi-Lens projector is plenty bright, and we're not talking big blob of uncontrolled light-bar bright. We're talking well-controlled, non-glaring light output for use on the road. Their advanced optics, curved cutoff shield, and CREE XHP35 chipset come together to create a properly distributed and wide beam pattern with a proper ECE style step in the middle. With a factory-installed clear lens, the cutoff like is nice and sharp/colorful.
EASY INSTALL: Despite the fact that there's a bit of extra heft on the back of the projector, their overall size is pretty similar to something like Morimoto's Mini D2S 4.0. Respectably compact enough to fit in most headlights, the Bi-Lens features a threaded-shaft style mount on the back that allows the projectors to be locked on with their included hardware, and minimal modifications to your headlight. If you've been considering a Mini H1 retrofit for the ease of install, these are a comparable option to think about.
SIMPLE: Separate bulbs to buy? Nope. Big ballasts to mount? Nada. Relay harness to run? Not a worry. The Profile Bi-Lens setup is nothing more than the projector itself and the small external LED driver to regulate power. If you dont have the space or simply the patience to deal with all the necessary gear that powers HID-based systems, that's reason enough to look further into going all LED.
CONSTRUCTION: The Profile Bi-Lens LED is a solid start in the LED projector world. The die-cast aluminum body feels heavy duty, and has more than enough surface area to properly cool the LED chip set. The die-cast cutoff shield is done with precision, and the reflector bowls have a perfectly metalized finish. Clarity of the lens is great. We're not so sure they spec'd a Hi/Lo solenoid that looks like a leftover from an old Mini H1, and the wiring/driver could be a bit beefier – but if you can look past the small things; overall it's a well-executed design.
COMPATIBLE: Conveniently, the Profile Bi-Lens LED projector is compatible with most every retrofit bracket on the market that's been designed around the Morimoto Mini D2S 4.0. Since the bolt pattern on the main mounting bracket is shared between the two projectors, if you're looking at something thats made for the Mini, then chances are you're looking at something that's made for the Bi-Lens too. Nice!
